The ukulele is the official musical instrument of Halloween. What proof do you have, you ask? The following:

The Amazing Voice of William Preston "Rock That Uke" Robertson in Evil Dead 2

Stephin "Goth-Bubblegum Uker" Merritt and The Gothic Archies's new CD, The Tragic Treasury: Songs From A Series of Unfortunate Events

Sacred Uke

It being Sunday and all, I thought I'd post a link to Darrell Dement's blog, "Sacred Uke."

Darrell is a pastor in DeLand, Florida. (Four Gospels, four strings. Makes perfect sense to me!) If you're looking for hymns to include in worship services, Darrell has arrangements of about a dozen on his blog. Oh, and "Layla," too. Which Darrel categorizes as a "Not So Sacred" tune, but I'm a Unitarian in California, so it's like #42 in my hymnal. Link

Beltona "Blue Uke" #2

Beltona has just released a spiffy new version of their Blue resonator ukulele. It has an asymmetrical cutaway body. We here at Ukulelia have dubbed it the "Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Ukulele" and the must-have toy for Christmas this year!

(Santa, are you listening?)

Duke of Uke

Michael Simmons, Grand Panjandrum over at The Fretboard Journal reminded me of the story (below) about the ukulele shop in England that now takes credit cards. Maybe not a huge news event, but Duke of Uke sure looks like a heckuva store. Kind of like Shakespeare & Company for ukes. (Wonder if Sylvia Beach ever played...) Link

Lil' Rev in Berkeley!

I had the pleasure of having breakfast with Lil' Rev last week at Mel's Diner in San Francisco.

Rev wanted all you Bay Area Ukulelia readers to know about his upcoming show, this Friday night, October 20, at Epic Arts in Berkeley. Please come on out to this off-the-beaten-path venue for what will surely be a uke-packed night of Rev-elry. (Man, I need more coffee, or fewer hyphens!) Even if you can't make it, please help spread the word. $10 suggested donation, all ages, no one turned away for lack of funds.

My Rocketbelt Daze

Story and accompanying YouTube video about Harold Graham, the first person to fly a rocketbelt. Yep, the one you always dreamed of trying out. The one in the James Bond movies. So how could Harold be any cooler? Why, this is a ukulele blog, isn't it? Link
