A paragraph from "Ukulele: The World's Friendliest Instument" -
"Manuel Nunes was perhaps the most enterprising of the three Portuguese competitors. He was one of the first to promote the 'ukulele' in print. One of his advertisements cited the patronage of the royal family, and he also proclaimed himself to be the ukulele's inventor. The assertion was a brazen whopper, but Nunes persistently repeated the same false claim for years to come."
