Ukulele diva Victoria Vox will be on Jay Leno's show tonight (Wednesday, December 2, 2009, 10pm ET). Oddly enough, not to play the ukulele, but to play her Mouth Trumpet. Truly. Let's hope Victoria gets asked to come back and bring her uke. Go, girl! Link

Do you know if they booked her or if she was just in the audience (watching it right now—she's a hit)
Booked, so far as I know.
On the show, VV said she plays the ukulele. Jay rolls his eyes, does a take and says something like "apparently everyone does these days". Yuk yuk. If he only knew. I hope VV played for the band while she was there. Maybe they'll ask her back
This brings to mind Johnny Carson & the guitar. Johnny had said on his show that anyone could pick up a guitar, learn a few chords, & play. So, to prove his point, he had the show's guitarist, Bucky Pizzarelli teach him, & he did, indeed, play a song on the show. Pizzarelli also played with Tiny Tim (after tuning Tiny's uke) on the night of Tiny's wedding on the show.
Jay could do the same thing for the ukulele & have Victoria (Running from the Law/Ukin' at the Wheel) Vox teach him a song. And maybe, since Jay's such a big auto fanatic...
Ron, that's a great idea.
I did know that Bucky plays the uke from time to time, as does his son, John Pizzarelli (although not frequently enough!). I have a studio recording of John playing uke and singing a Gershwin song that Cliff Edwards performed in Lady Be Good (the same show where he introduced Fascinatin' Rhythm). The song is Little Jazz Bird. Sweet.
