(Thanks, Michael!)
Update: Who would have guessed that this movie actually won 2 Academy Awards? True. And check out the first line of the novel, written by ViƱa Delmar:
Some one had brought a ukulele. Some one who hit the strings with a gay discordancy, a gleeful insolence that seemed to say, "Sure, it's out of tune. Who cares?"
Sounds like Craig's kind of gal. Craig, I think you should set the movie poster copy to music:
Red-lipped shop girl in sleazy dress...
Aching with suppressed emotions...
Dance halls...
Excursion steamers...
Chop suey palaces...

"The girl selected from hundreds tested" has got some perspective problems. Like that one big hand, or the leg that weighs as much as the rest of her. No wonder she's bad. ;)
who would have guessed that this film won 2 Academy Awards? really!

I may have to accept this challenge...
We'll await the California premiere.
I have a hardcover copy of this book. The dust jacket is the same as the movie poster, though. I'll have to check which edition it is.

I'm thinking of getting a copy, too. Sounds like a fun read.
